Delicious vs. Digg

Brian Clark has published in the performancing blog three reasons why Delicious is better than Digg and this in order to a recent publication of him that was promoted both in Digg’s front page and in Delicious’s popular top.

Let’s see the three reasons for which he thinks Delicious is better and also a few own opinions that show the opposite:

Reason #1: Bookmarks are enduring

Though it is true that we keep a web site to return when we have more time; mostly, the users of Delicious view the page as a resource to which they will be able to return again and again. With Digg, the user simply votes, being able to provide, or not, traffic. Digg has a short term effect.

A business model that VC* adores. Business 2.0 has published a series of advices to make money offering free services. Which is the strategy? The “Freemiums”services. That is to say, services 100 % free that attract users to a basic product, to offer then a special product, with a respective payment.

Examples of this strategy success are many, the Magazine mentions, between others, two examples: Adobe, which started by giving their PDF reader in 1995; and MySQL, the second company in open-source database software, that also offers it for free.

Microsoft and Yahoo prepare themselves to fight against Google

Microsofr and Yahoo against Google

The impetus of Google in developing their Internet strategy is motivating the two other Internet giants.

Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, has declared that with Google it’s difficult to find and to incorporate new and better talents. That’s why, they have decided to increase their next year budget for research and development to 7.5 billion dollars, which are 1.3 billion dollars more than they declared a few months ago behind, in May.

By the other hand, today Yahoo has realized an acquisition and an investment. They know that the competition in Internet has increased and are prepared for it. In addition, for almost one month, Yahoo is in conversations to acquire Facebook (for 1 billion dollars); even when these conversations have cooled because Facebook requests a higher offer.

Firefox Tip: Log simultaneously in two Gmail accounts

If you have multiple Gmail accounts and use Firefox, you don’t have to be opening and closing the accounts to see your mails, for it you can install the extension IE Tab, then open a tab with FF and log there; and then do the same thing, but with IE’s tab. You can see the result in this image.

Even when the trick does not turn out to be so convincing, it’s effective and the tip not only serves for Gmail, but in general for any web service. Once again, Firefox does easier to surf in the Internet.

Ranking of countries where making business is easier

The World Bank published in July a very interesting report called Doing business in 2006: Creating Jobs. And even when it’s not a recent new, let me tell you that it’s very helpful is to know wich are the top thirty economies based on the ease of doing business. To summarizes, this report is a product of an investigation on the regulations to the economic activity that must be fulfilled in every country using new quantitative indicators on the regulations to the business and doing comparisons between 155 countries (from Afghanistan up to Zimbabwe). In my opinion, a very interesting reading.

Google + YouTube = 2 billions in lawyers

Larry Page and Sergey Brin thought that with the acquisition of YouTube they would obtain a community with million users. At only few days of the acquisition, this is not the only thing they have obtained ….

Recently, the Time Warner has demonstrated, in the British diary The Guardian, that they have initiated conversations with the managers of YouTube in order to guard over their author’s copyright. To guard over their rights? Though it is true, YouTube might be infringing their author’s copyright, but what a coincidence that they announce their worry just after the famous buy.

Dick Parsons, chief executive of Time Warner said that even when they have started actions, the decision to guard over their author’s copyright has not been a consequence of YouTube’s acquisition by Google.

A magnificent HTML editor, has three views: Code, WYSIWYG and a Firefox preview. Also it allows you to open theses previews in other browsers, has a file bar to surf easily between directories. It has an embed JavaScript console. Facilitates the code validation according to the W3C and has an advanced panel of search/replacement/result. For those who use Dreamweaver, this extension turns out to be very familiar. Download.

DevBoi

DevBoi offers a quick lateral access to documentation and manuals about XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Ruby on Rails and others. Obviously it requires an Internet connection.
